Sparks Prompt-Style Writing Workshop

Want to write your stories but aren’t sure where to begin?

Maybe you love writing but have a hard time finding the time, or maybe you don’t write currently but would like to try. A prompt-style writing workshop is just the thing for so many people just like you. Prompts help you enter the page and guide your thoughts so you don’t have to stare at a blank page feeling lost and discouraged. A workshop environment helps you create an ongoing writing practice.

Who is it for?

No writing experience necessary. This workshop is for all levels of writers and non-writers who want an environment in which to practice. We will discuss tricks and tips for accessing and writing personal stories via prompts particularly related to traumatic and difficult life events such as a cancer diagnosis. Participants will also have the opportunity to share their writing if they so desire. There will be no critics, only listening, and no pressure to share. We'll also discuss how to establish a writing practice beyond the workshop as well as different places to get published in case that is of interest.

All stages of breast cancer welcome for anyone around the world.

Participants may be any age now, but were diagnosed under 50*.

What does it include?

  • 45 minutes of writing (divided among different prompts)

  • April's tips/discussion for accessing and writing stories as well as methods for establishing a writing practice

  • Time for sharing your writing after each prompt if you wish

How does it work?

Facilitated by your host, April Stearns, we will meet six times, for two hours each (once per week for six weeks).

A small class size (no more than nine) enables us to get to know one another in a more intimate setting and provides the most time for writing and sharing.

The workshop will take place online via Zoom. Although not required, headphones with a mic are helpful.
