Meet Hannah - Original Designer and Art Director

Diagnosed at 26 with Stage II ER+ breast cancer, Hannah comes from a small town on the edge of the Peak District, England. "I came across Wildfire on Instagram back in September 2016. At the time I was still recovering from my lumpectomy, about to start Tamoxifen, and in the midst of a grueling month of radiotherapy. I felt terribly alone, and totally lost. Reading the stories of other women like myself going through this in their 20s and 30s gave me strength. It was a world-away from the dry, drab leaflets that had been placed into my trembling hands when I left the oncologists' office, which didn't remotely represent my situation or my experience of this disease. I reached out to April to let her know that I appreciated what she was doing and that if I could ever help her out, she should let me know. Fast forward a few months to January 2017, several Skype dates and many email exchanges later, and the newly-designed Wildfire was released – in print for the first time (the very first "Body" issue). For five years, it was my honor and privilege to design this magazine for all of you, and I can truly say that it was the most rewarding project of my career thus far. Wildfire is important, and it is needed.

In the summer of 2021, five years into her survivorship — five years mirrored by working on Wildfire — Hannah decided it was time to move on to other projects, but her fingerprints and heart remain on Wildfire as her beautiful design is the one we use in our branding to this day.

Our magazine issues are now laid out in the design Hannah created by our art team of breast cancer allies, Sally Evans and Kim Farrall of Somewhere Off Grid Ltd.
